Interior odour: find the cause before cleaning
Describe when the smell appears
Start with observation rather than an air freshener. Record when the smell is strongest: after opening the car, after rain, with ventilation on or near a particular seat. Recall recently carried food, sportswear or wet items. This helps the provider start checking a defined area.
If the smell followed an event, mention it. You need not identify the chemical composition or exact cause yourself. A sequence is enough: what happened, what was cleaned and whether the result changed. Strong fragrance before inspection makes before-and-after comparison harder.
Check accessible places without dismantling
Start with belongings, door pockets, cupholders and boot. Remove forgotten packaging and portable items to assess the interior without them. Inspect removable mats and the accessible floor beneath. Report an obviously damp area rather than hiding it under another mat.
Do not remove seats, panels or ducts merely to search. Marks beneath upholstery, recurring damp or an unclear source need separate assessment. Removing remaining contamination and eliminating its cause can be different tasks. If recently cleaned, compare observations with post-cleaning drying checks.
Separate cleaning from additional products
Odour treatments have specific uses. Autoglym Odour Eliminator, for example, is intended for specified textiles; for persistent odour, its instructions advise thorough cleaning of the source. This is no basis for spraying every interior opening or promising identical results in every situation.
Ask which areas will be cleaned and why. If only fragrance is proposed, ask how the original problem will be checked. You may decline extra scent to judge results more easily. For a spill stain, upholstery material and an approved cleaning method matter before the intensity of a new fragrance.
When another specialist is needed
Describe smells associated with ventilation to a specialist for that system. Check cabin-filter service history and your model’s schedule. Do not replace a filter by an arbitrary universal interval or regard it as a guaranteed odour solution. Ford’s filter description, for example, refers to the car manual for specific guidance.
If water keeps appearing, establish where it enters first. Recleaning without that check may not solve the original task. Ask the provider to define its scope: what it inspects, what it cleans and which checks require a specialist workshop.
Agree how to assess the result
Record observed areas and previous cleaning attempts before work. Ask what can realistically be assessed at collection and what needs observation after drying. Check products and the follow-up process if the smell returns. A promise of complete permanent removal without finding the cause does not replace a clear plan.
At collection, reproduce the conditions where the problem usually appeared as far as possible in a stationary car. Record later observations and share them. For full interior cleaning, agree the Baku deep-cleaning scope in advance. Prepare a symptom and work-scope description for searching through Yumo instead of only ‘remove the smell’.
