How to inspect your car after a wash

Start with what was ordered

Accept the car against the agreed list rather than an overall impression of shine. Open the order and check which areas should have been cleaned. If boot, stain removal or wheel treatment were not included, discuss their condition separately. Good pre-wash preparation simplifies this. Ask staff to show extras completed and explain results such as an old stain left to avoid aggressive treatment.

Walk around the body in even light

Where possible, inspect where light and dark areas are both visible. Walk around in order: front, one side, rear, other side. Check dirt residue, streaks, missed areas near handles and separately agreed details. Do not touch a suspicious spot to identify it. Show staff and ask what it is and whether the order covers removing it.

Look through glass from inside

Glass may look clean outside but impair the driver’s view. Check windscreen, mirrors and interior surfaces if included. View from different angles to spot wiping marks. Ask for visibility-impairing areas to be corrected before departure. Discuss a glass coating’s condition separately from cleaning. The car glass guide covers agreeing work and typical issues.

Check the interior and returned items

Check belongings, seat position and access to required controls. Inspect ordered areas including pockets, boot and mats. After wet cleaning, ask whether the interior is ready for use: ‘work finished’ does not explain whether materials are dry. Use the drying guide. Check driver-mat fastening: Tesla Model Y’s manual specifically says it must not obstruct pedals or lie over another mat. Follow your own car’s manual.

Discuss observations on site

Describe the area and expected result: ‘streaks remain inside the glass’ is more useful than ‘a poor wash’. If you find damage, pause collection and compare with pre-work photos together if available. Record the observation without rushing to assign a cause: cleaning can reveal an old defect. Ask what staff propose and how long it takes. Do not automatically accept polishing or another extra instead of an explanation.

Finish collection without rushing

Before leaving, compare final work and price with the agreement, collect keys and the relevant order confirmation. If work is postponed, record exactly what, who will contact you and when to return. Keep disputed-area photos and correspondence together. Restore settings changed for washing according to your model’s manual. This turns collection into a short clear check and avoids discovering an important question far from the provider.
